EdgeRadio was created
out of a love of music.
EdgeRadio features music based on its
merits, not its chart position. While
EdgeRadio does feature some
'mainstream' artists, EdgeRadio
is committed to providing a forum for
Indie and Alternative Rock, with a strong
emphasis on progressive music from the
80's & 90's. We also feature
Alternative News & Views every day. We
strive to offer a forum for different
kinds of music not heard locally, as well
as to provide an alternate source of news
and information not heard on commercial
outlets.
You won't hear any DJ's on
EdgeRadio. Number one, we prefer to let
the music to the talking. Secondly, the
reality of our situation precludes the
luxury of a traditional studio set-up.
Being strictly volunteer and
self-supporting, we strive to focus on
the music and informational
programs.
In this era of ever increasing corporate
monopolization of the airwaves, it is
vital that there are alternative,
non-commercial voices to provide a
balance. As citizens, we must always
remain active, always question, always
seek answers. It is only in this way that
we can remain truly free. That is the one
truth about Freedom--If we don't use
it, we lose it.
We are a very
low-power FM operating on 106.7 mhz. We
also stream on the web, twenty-four hours
a day, seven days a week. We feature two
audio streams: one is our on-air program
schedule, and the second is our
all-muzik, internet-only stream. Both are
encoded in 32kbps AAC+ format.

We hope that EdgeRadio 106.7 will inspire
others to begin thinking about the need
for alternative, non-commercial voices in
our communities. EdgeRadio is nothing but
the tiniest example of what is truly
possible in non-commercial community
radio. To see what a community station
can REALLY be, check out KPFA from
Berkeley, California. KPFA is the oldest,
independent, non-commercial, community
radio station in the nation, having
started operations in 1947. Their website
can be found here:
www.kpfa.org
Another example of the new breed of LPFM
Community Radio is WYAP-FM, a neat LPFM
in Clay, West Virginia. Here is their
website:
EdgeRadio is a non-commercial, non-profit station.
We hope that you will
find something of interest in EdgeRadio.
Whether it will be some new song by an
artist you have never heard before, or
perhaps some new point of view that you
hadn't considered previously. If
EdgeRadio inspires only one person, then
we'd consider it all worthwhile.
