While EdgeRadio does feature some 'mainstream' artists, EdgeRadio is committed to providing a forum for Indie and Alternative Rock, with a strong emphasis on progressive music from the 80's & 90's. We also feature Alternative News & Views every day. We strive to offer a forum for different kinds of music not heard locally, as well as to provide an alternate source of news and information not heard on commercial outlets. <br> <br> You won't hear any DJ's on EdgeRadio. Number one, we prefer to let the music to the talking. Secondly, the reality of our situation precludes the luxury of a traditional studio set-up. Being strictly volunteer and self-supporting, we strive to focus on the music and informational programs. <br> <br> In this era of ever increasing corporate monopolization of the airwaves, it is vital that there are alternative, non-commercial voices to provide a balance. As citizens, we must always remain active, always question, always seek answers. It is only in this way that we can remain truly free. We also stream on the web, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We feature two audio streams: one is our on-air program schedule, and the second is our all-muzik, internet-only stream. KPFA is the oldest, independent, non-commercial, community radio station in the nation, having started operations in 1947.
